VLOGS - Get Your Name Out There

VLOGS (or video blogs) are a great way to add video to your business. You can talk about what your business does, answer FAQ or keep your clients up to date with what your company is doing. These are simple to film and you can knock out 8 in a day and release a new one once a week to make it look like you have an ongoing video series.

Today was my fifth time back to a local insurance company and we filmed 6 video blogs in under 2 hours as well as took new employee headshots. These videos will be uploaded to youtube and facebook, posted on twitter and their website and sent out in email blasts.

I just wanted to share some creative ways to spice up your marketing and keep your small business at the top of search engines.

To explain our set up you can view the image above. We start with setting up a white background. We want the exposure to be completely blown out so have 2 fluorescent softboxes aimed at the backdrop from a few feet away.

The talent stands in front of these softboxes so the light does not affect them. You then add another light or 2 to the subject, keeping them well lit but make sure the background is still blown out.

I then had my Panasonic GH4 with an ipad/teleprompter a few feet in front of them so they could read bullet points while looking straight into the lens. We were in a small room so decided to use a lav mic going straight into the camera. The set up looks like a lot but other than the camera/tripod the cost of all the lights/backdrop was under $200.

Here is a rough cut of one of the vlogs:
